The Classic Rock series was a big hit in the s. Most, if not all, of the volumes were issued on LP and CD. Album art for the LPs and CDs was occasionally different, but in most cases the covers were identical. The label on the LP versions had a red top half and white bottom half. Initially, there were 30 volumes, but another volume was added later.
In the late s, Time-Life also issued a retail budget box set. The artwork on the box set was "psychedelic" and not like the rest of the set, but the titles of the individual CDs in the box set were the same subtitles used for the Classic Rock series, that is, The O Tod, Wie Bitter Bist Du - Johannes Brahms, Edith Mathis, Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, Edinburgh Festi Goes On, Blowin' Your Mind, and Shakin' All Over.
InTime-Life sent out a direct-mail offer that was unusual in one respect, that it pitched two different subscription series in the same mailing. Inside was a large folded sheet which told potential customers, "Just tell us the year and we'll send you back the music! Inside the envelope were small stickers for each year; you peeled off the year you wanted and pasted it on the return card.

Because of the sign in the background, this cover design is sometimes referred to as A-Go-Go. This remaster is much better than the original. This has extra cuts and a general upgrade in sound, both on the LP version and the CD version.
