Mickey Gilley released his version of the song inand it was included in the movie Urban Cowboy. In a music video entitled Disney's Timon and Pumbaa in "Stand by Me" Timon performs the song with slightly altered lyrics, while Pumbaa survives physical mishaps and ferocious creatures. A trio of frogs then finish the song at the end.
Alvin and the Chipmunks performed the song in the eponymous film. Prince Royce recorded a bachata version of the song as his debut single, changing parts of the lyrics into Spanish.
